AGIS Conference 2026 Potsdam
Working Together To Support Learning
Saturday September 19, 2026 2:30pm - 3:30pm CEST
In this workshop, I will share practical, classroom-tested strategies and approaches to teaching and learning in the Language and Literature classroom through the lens of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), with a particular emphasis on strengthening student engagement and self-regulation.The session will focus on concrete techniques that teachers can immediately implement. We will examine how engagement is not simply about motivation, but about cultivating relevance, challenge, voice, and agency within the learning process. These strategies are particularly effective in preparing students to become assessment-capable learners; students who understand learning goals, can monitor their own progress, and can identify next steps for improvement. More broadly, participants will consider how UDL-informed practices support the development of expert learners: students who are purposeful and motivated, resourceful and knowledgeable, and strategic and goal-directed.
