Gamification has become a popular trend in education, yet its impact depends entirely on thoughtful design. This interactive workshop explores how evidence-based gamification can meaningfully enhance motivation, retention, and communicative competence in foreign language teaching. Grounded in motivational theory and classroom research, the session will briefly examine why superficial reward systems often fail and what actually works. Participants will experience a tool to gamify their lessons and units, and explore how narrative, progression systems, and challenge structures can increase student engagement without sacrificing academic rigour.
