AGIS Conference 2026 Potsdam
Working Together To Support Learning
Saturday September 19, 2026 1:15pm - 2:15pm CEST
This one-hour workshop focuses on practical strategies to strengthen student agency in DP classrooms. As students in Grades 11 and 12 prepare for post-secondary pathways, careers, and increased independence, fostering agency becomes essential to their success. Agency goes beyond engagement—it involves helping students develop ownership, voice, self-direction, and the confidence to take responsibility for their learning.
During this session, we will explore what student agency looks like in action and examine how instructional design, assessment practices, and classroom culture can either promote or limit student autonomy. Participants will reflect on current practices and identify opportunities to embed purposeful choice, goal-setting, authentic learning experiences, and meaningful feedback into their teaching.
The workshop will provide practical, classroom-ready strategies that can be implemented immediately, while also encouraging thoughtful discussion about how we can shift from compliance-driven learning to empowering students as active partners in their education.
